A Quiet Photo

Photos from the opening night of the Kaleido Festival on 118 Avenue in Edmonton. This inner city neighbourhood has been hosting various arts events in an attempt to revitalize the area.

There's something wonderful about a photo that doesn't jump out at you. The
quiet photo. They straddle that line between intrigue and boredom. Maybe
it's the layers of characters that I find fascinating.

These photos were taken in a historically bad part of Edmonton. One of our
inner city neighbourhoods. Usually the stomping grounds of crack addicts,
prostitutes and rows of pawn shops. But, recently local artists have been
moving in and with the help of the city trying to revitalize the area.

The Technical Stuff: Shot with a Nikon D700 at 2000ISO-2500ISO. Colours
seems to get a bit funky at those high ISO levels. I find street photography
can be very difficult. It seems to have lost its traditional sense of
honesty. Maybe because of all the pervs on the street with cameras and
online access. Which is why I made sure to talk to parents when I photograph
their kids.
